Part 48 New Miner courses require a mine/site tour before your training is complete. Or course satisfies the 24 hour requirement and covers all mandatory subjects, except the mine. At the completion of your course, you will receive an MSHA form 5000-23 certificate showing all of the requirements are met, except the mine tour. You will take this certificate to the mine and the mine will perform this required tour. After your tour is complete, the mine will document this on the 5000-23 form and give you a copy.
*Note: This mine tour is usually automatically given by the mine upon your arrival, however, some mines may only conduct these tours on certain days of the week. For this reason we recommend you reach out to the mine to inquire about your mine tour before your arrival.
