What is the difference between Part 46 and Part 48 training?
Part 46 regulates the training and retraining of miners engaged in shell dredging or employed at sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, surface limestone, marble, granite, sandstone, slate, shale, traprock, kaolin, cement, feldspar, and lime mines only. Part 48 is for all other mines not listed above to include coal and metal mines.
If you are a contractor and will be working a multiple mines it is best to obtain the Part 48 certification. This will allow you to work on all Part 48 and Part 46 mines in the US. With just a Part 46 certification you can not work on Part 48 mine sites.
